Stamps are so cool. At best, they're engaging works of art. There is something about how they make communication possible that adds to their stature in a way that's hard to explain. On top of this, factor in the postmark - often from far away and exotic places (a work of art in its own right) - and the fact that within the envelope, or written on the card is a message - at first unknown, and then knowable through decipherment of scratch marks we have learned to understand.![]() This envelope comes from Belize, in Central America. They have no tigers there, but their folklore clearly depicts one. In fact, until recently Belizean picture books taught only about foreign animals and not about all the marvelous native ones. |
