Rue St. Severin   Rue de la Huchette   Hotel des Argonauts on Rue de la Huchette

Left photo: Rue St. Severin on a very cloudy day in January; behind us is Rue St. Jacques. You can see the gargoyles of St. Severin near the top left of the picture. The middle picture: Rue de la Huchette. Balloons cover the front of the Hotel des Argonautes, where we stayed. Decorations were still up around town, left from Christmas and from New Year's, 2000. Downstairs in the Greek restaurant, they played loud music till a about 2:30 each morning. It was charming except when it woke us up in the middle of the night since we were on the first floor right above it. But it was easy to find wonderful Greek snacks at all hours of the night :) The street was lined with restaurants and food vendors. Number 10, next to des Argonautes, is where Napoleon lived at the time he ordered grapeshot to be volleyed into a crowd. Thus began his climb to fame and power. Click through to the big image and you can read the number 10.

Rue du Chat qui Pêche   A nice doorway   A street

Our hotel was ideally located, although you might not guess it from the picutre on the left, the only view from our window, looking down the narrowest street in Paris, the Rue du Chat qui Pêche (Street of the Fishing Cat). This is an ancient street with a lot of history, and I believe it was on the first maps of Paris. Rue du Chat qui Pêche goes one short block from Rue de la Huchette to the banks of the Seine. The center photo is a nice doorway. It's in the vicinity of Rue Lagrange, but I'm not sure if it's on that street. A date in the masonry says "1910." On the right is another scene in the same area. The shops along here can be expensive.

Place St. Michel   Pantheon

On the left, one of those toilets where the whole room flushes when you leave. It's located in Place St. Michel, the very famous heart of the Latin Quarter, with Davioud's fountain of St. Michael enshrined at the end of a building. On the right, the Pantheon seen from Place Maubert.
