I just found out about this one - it might be of use to someone working
with tapirs.
The Pittsburg Zoo has a conservation fund available for "conserving
wildlife and its habitat throughout the world". Awards are in the order of
$1000- $3000 and are not to cover travel, training, visitor surveys or
husbandry projects. Proposals due October 1st.

This is in regard to her request about food to bait tapirs. In
the past, working with documentary films, we would have to get
the tapir(s) in certain camera shots but obviously could not use
bananas. Cecropia leaves (always plentiful), but any other leafy
available food item, sprinkled with banana flavouring (available
here in the store, so has to be everywhere) and honey certainly
worked. The banana flavouring has a strong smell - given the
acute olfactory of tapirs, I believe this was its strong point.
Anyway, beats hauling bananas through the forest. Sharon Matola.
