In a message dated 97-09-11 12:52:27 EDT, you write:

<< Tapir Bait.
Have you tried using dried banana chips? Available in Costa Rica are
banana chips made from green plantains. Light and easy to pack.
Probably would not be hard to contract a campesino to do this for a
 low but reasonable cost.

I know exactly what you're refering to and I've eaten them myself many times,
but I don't recall them having a particularly strong odor. We need the smell
to attract them to the bait site and then something there to keep them busy.
Maybe we'll combine all of the suggestions so far: banana extract for odor,
and banana chips and honey covered cecropia leaves to keep them busy while we
fire a couple of darts into their rear-ends.

Thanks for the advise.
