Hi Everyone,

Regarding the expansion of armadillo and possibly tapir ranges in
response to global warming, the comfort range for armadillos may be moving
northward due to gradually increasing ambient temperatures. In turn,
they may just be following it into new territory. If the trend
continues, it would not be unlikely to find even more temperature
sensitive species such as alligators in more northward ranges.

Subject: Tapir Talk: Stomping out campfires?
Date: Mon, 19 May 1997 14:51:46 -0600

Hello tapir friends,

Has anyone ever heard of tapirs entering a camp in the wild and stomping out
the campfire? I received this story in writing from a reliable source many
years ago. I'm preparing to put it in print, and was wondering if anyone
else had heard of or experienced such a thing. The original sender of the
story is, unfortunately, no longer living, so I can't ask for further
details. He was well acquainted with tapirs, and the action with the fire
was reported as being very deliberate - they were not just running through
the camp. These were Baird's tapirs in Mexico.

Sheryl
