Translation Correction:

I don't mean to be AR about correct language translations but the 
Brazilian Portuguese word for Tapir is "a anta" not "la anta" as was
previously suggested. Feminine nouns in the Portuguese language begin
with an "a" article not the "la" that is used in Spanish.

Just a little nicety that may prevent us all from looking "muito 
gringo."

Subject: Tapir talk: the bairdii problem

Some weeks ago I posted a message to the group regarding the correct
spelling of latinized names in scientific nomenclature (eg Tapirus bairdii
or Sorex bairdii, spelled with two 'i's' although the correct spelling of
the genitiv in latin would be with only one 'i', ie bairdi).

I received an answer from a well-known mammalogist: the rule is that the
name should be spelled according to the first species description, no
matter what the correct spelling is, although not all authors stick to this
rule...
