Hello!!
I'm from Brazil, and here, the Tapir is named "Anta" a feminine name. The
male is Anta too. Not "anto" or something like this.

Hello Werner,
Thanks for your information.

So it looks like the "ii" would be used for Tapirus bairdii if we follow the
lead of this mammalogist. We have:
Elasmognathus bairdii (Gill, 1865)
Tapirus bairdii (Sclater, 1872)
Tapirus (Elasmognathus) bairdi (Sumichrast, 1882)
. . . but the "ii" seems to have been used most often through and including
Hershkovitz, 1954. I'm citing Hershkovitz' own references to the above
papers, because I don't have all of them myself. Gill is credited with the
name, Tapirus bairdii (Gill), by Hershkovitz.
TAPIR POSTERS: With all the talk about the tapir poster, I'd like to
mention that it was developed as part of a project on mountain tapir
conservation by Dr. Jaime Cavelier and Diego Lizcano at the University
of the Andes in Bogota, Colombia. A number of them were graciously
donated to the Tapir Preservation Fund to help raise money in the Gift
Shop. They now grace homes in the U.S. and Europe, but I also hear
they were a tremendous success in educating people about these animals
in Colombia. Sharon Matola mentioned that Baird's tapir posters
printed and distributed in Belize also had a great effect on public
awareness. This seems to be an excellent way to get the conservation
word out!
