At the risk of offending, but I've been inundated, submerged and drenched in
sheep cloning cartoons, gene splicing and creature combinations.
If one could humorously, not for real, blend a tapir with a ?? what would
the other mammal be?
LLama, a panda, gazelle, bonobo, a mini-pig from the labs? No, I don't
think blending giant sloth and tapir genes would calm down nervous tapirs!
Seriously, the Digest is a wondrous, subtle tonic for civilization and
freeway woes. All the best. Mike Kane

ANNOUNCEMENT:
For those of you interested in mammals with smaller and less mobile snouts,
Dr. Werner Haberl is starting an e-list called SHREW TALK. A friend and
colleague, he helped put Tapir Talk together, and if you notice some
similarities (besides the snouts) don't be surprised! The first issue went
out today. Werner can be contacted by e-mail or through his Web site:
The Shrew (ist's) Site: http://members.vienna.at/shrew
Email: shrewbib@sorex.vienna.at
ANNOUNCEMENT #2:
Several people have asked how to join the ECOLOG-L list. This and other
lists as well as many additional excellent resources can be found at this
URL on the BIOSIS Web site:
http://www.york.biosis.org/zrdocs/zoolinfo/
I mistakenly told a couple of you the wrong URL for ECOLOG-L. It can be
found under the Ecology heading on the URL above. Hmm. Just tried it and the
link didn't work. For ECOLOG-L, I've copied the following from their FAQ:
You can subscribe to ECOLOG-L by sending the command (using my own name
as an example):
SUB ECOLOG-L David W. Inouye (Univ. of MD)
to LISTSERV (LISTSERV@UMDD.UMD.EDU). Replace the second part of the command
with your own name, and possibly City and State, or institution. This
information (40 characters maximum) is literally copied into the list of
subscribers, and should help identify you to someone who is examining the
list. You can
always change this information by signing off and then re-subscribing.
When you subscribe, you do not have to specify your E-mail address;
LISTSERV automatically extracts it from the 'From:' line in the header of
your E-mail.
==================================================
TO POST TO THE GROUP
Reply to tapir@tapirback.com - include the words "Tapir Talk"
in the subject line.
For the present, this is also my personal e-mail. If you would
like mail to go to Sheryl Todd rather than to the group,
DO NOT include the words "Tapir Talk" in the subject line
and/or please indicate in the body of the letter that it's personal.
To be removed from the list, write to the same address and ask to
be removed. You will receive confirmation of removal.
