Baird's tapir

There were not many Baird's tapirs in zoos in 1942. This postcard gives a rare glimpse of one such historic exhibit. The front of the card says:

TAPIR AND BABY, ST. LOUIS ZOO

On the back, the species is misidentified. It should say Central American tapir, but here is the actual text:

Edne, a South American Tapir, is shown here with her day-old baby, born at the St. Louis Zoo. The baby's markings will fade out and disappear by the time it is six months to a year old.



All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
