Partial albino Baird's tapir

Baird's tapir photo, Mexico

This Baird's tapir is a partial albino, born at the Tuxtla Gutierrez Zoo in Chiapas, Mexico. The slide was processed in January, 1976, but I don't know who the photographer was. It may have been sent to the Tapir Research Institute of Claremont, California, by the zoo's founder and director, Dr. Miguel Alvarez del Toro. The zoo is now named after him. The stuff on the tapir's head appears to be plant matter.

All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
