Essence of tapir

Very solid; a Baird's tapir from the back end - San Diego Zoo

A seriously contemplating tapir, San Diego Zoo

Some people might say the tapir's snout end is the essence of total tapir. We can't disagree with that entirely, but these photos give one pause to consider. Kate says the second photo has to be called "Hmph!" Therefore, it is.

Both photos were taken at the San Diego Zoo by Debby Rober in June, 2000, and forwarded to Kate Wilson, who in turn forwarded them to us. We thank Debby immensely for letting us use them!

All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
