This charming pin or tie tack of Tapirus terrestris is made in Brazil, home of the lowland tapir depicted on the pin. It measures just over 3/4 of an inch long. It was hard to get true colors in a digital photo, but by washing out the picture, it came close. The metal trim is shiny silver in color, and the tan body is about the color shown here.

The pins were commissioned by IPE, a conservation organization located in Sao Paulo State, Brazil, with whom Patricia Medici works on her lowland tapir radio-collaring project. IPE also studies jaguars, tamarins, and other local fauna, and works with farmers to protect the animals and their habitat.
