International Orders Welcome

This engaging, realistic-looking stuffed snowy owl is soft and graceful. The owl is sewn with soft plush fabric and is sturdy enough to stand on it feet and tail feathers. The body is accentuated with black to indicate the barred or speckled appearance of the snowy owl. He has a leather-like beak, large yellow and black eyes, and pointed white plastic talons. Our owl has a kindly expression and promises not to bite. This owl makes a wonderful gift for bird lovers and complements nicely any stuffed animal collection. The Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) is also known as the snow owl, Arctic owl, great white owl, ghost owl, and ermine owl. It is a large bird, usually about 24 inches long, heavily feathered, and, unlike other owls, is primarily diurnal. Its range includes Canada, Northern Europe and around the Arctic Circle. The snowy owl carefully follows the vole and lemming population, but it also eats snowshoe hares and fish. The snowy owl is virtually silent during nonbreeding seasons. The typical call of the male is a loud, harsh, grating bark, while the female has a similar higher pitched call. During the breeding season male makes a loud, booming "hoo, hoo," given as a territorial advertisement or mating call. Females rarely hoot. Its attack call is a guttural "krufff-guh-guh-guk". When excited it may emit a loud "hooo-uh, hooo-uh, hooo-uh, wuh-wuh-wuh." Other sounds are dog-like barks, rattling cackles, shrieks, hissing, and bill-snapping. Nestlings "cheep" up to 2 weeks of age, then hiss and squeal. The adult snowy owl has few predators but nestlings are vulnerable to foxes, and, of course, traplines set up by man.
