This interesting plastic pteranodon measures 12 inches from wing tip to wing tip. The distance from beak to toes is five inches. Our pteranodon replica is made of sturdy, flexible plastic by Safari, one of the very best names in plastic toys and animal replicas. The pteranodon does not stand up on its own, but can be propped up on it's feet or held in the air as if in flight. It's equally impressive from the front and back, and the colors are attractive and bright. Although a pteranodon is technically not a dinosaur, we've grouped this flying reptile with its more famous cousins. So far, we don't have a separate section for flying reptiles. Be sure to see our dinosaur and extinct animal toys and gifts.
"Pteranodon" means "winged and toothless." These flying reptiles were closely related to dinosaurs, but were technically not included in the same group. They lived during the late Cretaceous Period - one of the great ages of dinosaurs. Pteranodon stood about 6 feet tall (and some scientists believe they did stand upright), and had a wingspan of 25 to 33 feet - longer than any known bird. They had short tails, as you can see on our plastic pteranodon replica. Most pteranodon fossils have been found in Kansas and in England. Pteranodons fed primarily on fish, and may have scooped them out of the water the way a modern-day pelican feeds.
