Q: Why are your plastic gazelles TWELVE DOLLARS each? Isn't that a lot of money?

A: Yes, that's a lot, but here's the deal . . .

We began selling the gazelle at $2.00 each, like many of our plastic animals. Then we started getting orders for them in groups of 10, 20, 30, and we recently got a query for up to 100. It seems these gazelles make the perfect graduation present for a particular finance class where the gazelle is (ironically for us) the symbol of managing finances.

Q: That's great! Isn't that when you lower the price and give volume discounts?

A: We wish! If only we could buy them separately, that's exactly what we would do.

Unfortunately, the only way we can get this gazelle (and it's the only plastic gazelle we know of), is to buy it in a set along with 11 other animals. In order to get one gazelle for you, we need to buy 12 assorted animals. This would not be a problem if the other 11 animals, or even several of them, sold nearly as well as the gazelle. They don't. They're common, easy-to-find African animals and they sell slowly. For each gazelle we sell, we have to buy 12 assorted animals, pay for shipping, log them into our system, sort them, and find somewhere to store them.

Q: Is there an alternative?

A: Our alternative would be to discontinue selling the gazelle.

We deciede we'd rather keep the gazelle available in case anyone wants it enough to pay the $12.00. Otherwise, we either lose money carrying this product, or we take it out of the gift shop where you couldn't find it at all. We're sorry about the cost. If anyone wanted to order a bulk supply of approximately 10,000 or more gazelles, we might be able to work something out with the manufacturer in China. That's usually the point where they will break the animal out of the "family mold" of 12 animals and make only the one animal. Meanwhile, we will keep looking for a gazelle that's made in singles. When we find it, you'll see it in our shop! Thanks for your understanding!

Q: Say, what about those other African animals?

If you're interested in bulk-ordering common African animlas, give us a call at (888) 325-3179 and we'll see what we can do! Or if you're interested in the gazelles and can find a taker for some of these African animals, maybe we can talk!

OUR GAZELLLE IS . . .

A fairly small type of antelope (2 to 3 feet high at the shoulder), gazelles (Gazella) are swift, graceful animals able to maintain high speeds for extended periods of time. Their coat is usually fawn colored and some have striking black and white markings. The horns on most gazelles curve back and in and are heavily ringed. Three species of gazelle are extinct and the remaining species are endangered to varying degrees. The most widespread of all antelope, gazelles live in herds in the African grasslands and savannas. They are also found in southwest Asia.

The markings on the gazelle pictured above most closely resemble the Thompson's gazelle. This small toy gazelle is made of solid white plastic with the colors are painted on. It measures 2 1/8 inches long from nose to tail and stands 1 3/4 inches to the tip of its horns. Although parts of the toy are somewhat flexible, it is not posable. The word "GAZELLE" is embossed on the underside. NOTE: NOT suitable for children under 3 years of age. Be sure to look over our other antelope toys and gifts.
