Our Indian rhino plastic toy is made by Wild Republic. It is light-weight, hollow, and durable. The rhino's head, legs, and tail can be moved into different positions. You'll be delighted with the realistic details cast into this inexpensive toy. The eyes are bright, and the characteristic appearance of the skin, sometimes described as "armor plates with rivets," are clearly visible. Although it is sturdy, the pieces could possibly come loose so this toy is NOT recommended for very small children. It makes a nice addition to your [species] collection, is great for school projects, dioramas, as a toy for older kids or grown-ups, party favors, etc. To see our entire collection of action figures, check out our Animal Action Figures page.

Of the existing five species of rhinoceros, the Great Indian Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) is not only the largest but also the most pre-historic in appearance. It is often described as having an armour-plated skin. An mature Indian rhino can weigh up to 2.5 tons and when it charges, which is fortunately not often, it is a fearsome sight. But mostly they appear calm. Indian, or one-horned, rhinos, which are a seriously endangered species, are found in the swamps of central India, with a fair concentration in the Kaziranga National Park in Assam and in the flood plains of the rivers in Nepal. Despite the fact that there are only 2,500 surviving on Earth, this species is actually a conservation success story. Early in the 20th Century, there were only about 200 remaining. Protection by authorities in India and Nepal have allowed the numbers to increase to today's levels. However, poaching continues, and the rhinos must still be rigorously protected. You can learn more about conservation efforts for this and other species of rhinoceros on the excellent International Rhino Foundation Web site.
