Our plastic chimp mom and baby stand 2 7/8 inches tall to the top of the baby's head. The length is identical, measured from the mother's outstreched hand to her back foot. The toy is made of solid plastic, and the word "CHIMPANZEE" is moulded into the bottom. This plastic replica of the mother and baby chimp is a perfect size for shoebox dioramas for school projects, birthday cake decorations, party favors, or an addition to your grandchild's collection of wild animals. Chimps (short for "chimpanzees") remain among the world's most popular animals because humans can easily relate to their looks and behavior. They entertain us with their extremely mobile faces and bodies. We are fascinated by these animals so closely resembling our own species. There are two species of chimp - the common chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) and the smaller bonobo (Pan paniscus). Both species live in Africa. Chimps are members of the family Hominidae, as are gorillas, orangutans, and humans. Chimpanzees are threatened by population fragmentation, habitat destruction, disease, and persecution by humans.
