Howler monkeys are a well-known species of monkey found in Central and South America. They range from low tropical rainforests to cool high tropical rainforests. They are a large monkey and can grow up to 3 feet tall. They live mostly high in the trees and walk from limb to limb rather than jumping. They are found in small groups of about 10 members and spend most of the day sleeping and yet, are diurnal. They are strict vegetarians and follow certain fruiting trees throughout the season. Howler monkeys get their name because of their loud vocalization which can be heard for miles through the forest. The sound is more of a roar or grunt, rather than a howl.
