Our Carved Wooden Turtle
This cute turtle is handmade in Colombia, South America, of beautiful, natural palo de sangre wood. The red color of the wood is natural, and there is no finish or stain added. The surface shine and smoothness are created by rubbing the finished product in a way that burnishes it to a beautiful shine. You can learn more about palo de sangre wood products from Colombia via this link, or check out our other turtle toys and gifts. About South American Water Turtles
There are a number of very interesting water turtles indigenous to South America. In size, they range from what we commonly think of as a typical size for a turtle or tortoise, all the way up to the Giant South American River Turtle, whose native name is "arrau." It can weight up to 200 pounds, and reach a size of about 3 feet in length. These turtles are calm and placid. There are several species of sidenecked turtles in South America that actually fold their long necks to the side under the rim of the shell rather than pulling them straight back like North American turtles.
