Two soft Malayan tapirs from China
Violet and Wenzel
are now collector's items . . . and out of stock!
We love Violet and Wenzel, and we know you do, too! These two tapirs, were some of the most requested items in our gift shop. However, the manufacturer, K&M International - the largest supplier of toys to zoo gift shops in the U.S. - could not sell enough to keep making them. Made in China for K&M International, and distributed in the U.S. by K&M in partnership with the AZA, these tapirs meet all U.S. and state safety regulations. They are surprisingly lifelike and extremely adorable. They come with a printed tag (in English!) that contains accurate information about tapirs. Made from soft polyester, they are non-toxic and surface washable; instructions are on the tag.
Large size (named "Violet") - 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) from nose to tail and 5.5 inches (14 cm) tall, with black and grey fur and black eyes. The feet have grey pads on the bottoms.
Small size (named "Wenzel") - 7 inches (17.8 cm) from nose to tail and 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) tall, with black and grey fur and black eyes. The grey fur and inside of the ears are slightly lighter than in the big tapir, and the bottoms of its feet are black.
Violet was named by Kate Wilson and Wenzel was named by Werner Haberl in our Tapir Gallery 2nd Online Anniversary naming contest.
This picture was taken to show the soles of the large tapir's feet. Marco says the pose is called, "Mother tapir defending her young" - but don't believe everything you read!
