These pictures of Samson, a lowland tapir at the zoo in Budapest, Hungary, were sent by Katalin Pintér in 2003. He is shown in his winter quarters, where he lived with capybaras and "maras." He was later moved to a "nice country home." When we learn more about his new luxury lifestyle, we'll let you know! Like many people who visit tapirs, Katalin developed a special kinship with Samson.


All tapirs are endangered species.
