We have several tapirs at the Adelaide Zoo (at which I am a volunteer). There are five Brazilian and one Malayan. Adelaide Zoo has been given the privilege of having the Malayan tapir - named Sulong - because of our success in breeding the Brazilian tapir. Once Sulong is settled in we will be getting a female to hopefully commence a successful breeding program.

The cutest and most lovable would have to be Raymond. He is probably responsible for providing tapir stock for most of the zoos in Australia! Raymond is a bit of a sook and loves nothing more than a having his back scratched with a rake when the Keepers are tidying up his home.

All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
