We love these photos of Sheila (the human) and Daphne (the tapir)! Click on the bottom one to enlarge it. Daphne is a 13-year-old female Brazilian tapir (Tapirus terrestris) living at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Most tapirs love to be scratched, and can be "scratched down" to a lying position for medical exams, etc. However, even if there is no vet on hand to examine their feet or draw blood, the tapir will often fall over in ecstasy when scratched. Or maybe it will just smile.

All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
