Carlotta lives at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. She is one of very few mountain tapirs in captivity. All of the mountain tapirs in the U.S. were born at the Los Angeles Zoo, with the exception of one or two which were born at the San Diego while their parents were on loan from Los Angeles. The photo was taken by Sheryl Todd in March, 2000.


All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
