Many thanks to Ayèssa Rourke (tapir keeper) for obtaining these photos and to the Los Angeles Zoo for letting us use them. The caption on the back of the top picture says, "This is the first photo of the female mountain tapir born on May 6, 2000, at the Los Angeles Zoo. There are only 7 of these rare animals in captivity worldwide." The caption for the bottom one tells us that the mother's name is Midori. Baby mountain tapirs not only have longer hair than other species, but they also have more white markings on the face. The photographer's name is Tad Motoyama.

All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
