Zoological Enclosure Survey for Rhinos and Tapirs

Attention All Institutions Housing Rhino and Tapir Species:

I am conducting a survey on the effects of enclosure attributes and husbandry practices on the breeding success and health of captive tapirs and rhinos. The purpose of this research is to identify key factors that are correlated with reproduction, health and survival, and develop guidelines to improve captive management of rhinos and tapirs. Incorporating information internationally will provide a much-needed database for zoos and curators. The AZA Rhino and Tapir TAGs have reviewed and approved of this research. I strongly encourage any tapir or rhino holding institutions to please take the time to fill out this survey. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. Please try to complete the survey by April 15, 2003. I thank you for your time and participation in this study.
