An Asian tapir at the Los Angeles Zoo

Related to the horse and the rhinoceros, the tapir's poses are sometimes surprisingly like a dog's. I seem to have a knack for catching my subjects with their tongues protruding! You can see from this photo that tapirs have very short tails. The photo also gives some idea just how short the hair is on this species.


All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
