An Asian tapir stares from the water
in the Bangkok Zoo, Thailand

Photo © Copyright 1996 Stefan Schröder

In 1996, Stefan Schröder of Germany visited Bangkok, Thailand. A tapir fan, he went to the zoo to visit his favorite animal. Stefan says he likes this picture best because after giving him this look, the tapir began diving to the bottom and staying under water. Says Stefan, "I was glad he looked at me (some seconds later he started to dive for several minutes with only short interruptions). This seemed to be a long lasting ritual and so we decided to leave the zoo." The photo was taken October 3.

All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
