A haunting face
among the ferns

When I first saw this picutre, I found it hard to stop looking at the majestic and beautifully haunting face. When I woke up the next morning, the image was still with me. The youngster may be a lowland tapir hybrid. The mother looks almost like a lowland tapir, but not quite the norm. Is it possible that she could be a hybrid herself? It's impossible to say. The photo was taken at the Baños Zoo in Ecuador.
All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
