Stripes amid tall grasses

Although this picture was taken at the Baños Zoo, these tall grasses are typical of the mountain tapir's high Andean native habitat. The youngster may be a lowland tapir hybrid. The mother looks almost like a lowland tapir, but not quite the norm. She may be a hybrid herself, but no-one can say for sure. The photo was taken at the Baños Zoo in Ecuador.
All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
