Rick Barongi reports that there is a new National Geographic video featuring
tapirs called "Mission Wild, Costa Rica's Tapirs." He says, "It is being
broadcast in Europe and Southern Africa and will go out on National
Geographic Channels worldwide by cable and satellite. . . . I think this 30
minute video will be very important in heightening the awareness of the
general public. . . . "The shots of the tapirs swimming and playing are all
from the La Marina Zoo." Unfortunately, the documentary is not being shown
in the U.S. yet. We'll let you know if we have advance warning. Or, if
someone sees it, please let me know.
Tapir Talk and my personal e-mail will be offline for one or two days while
the computer is being worked on. Go ahead and send e-mail, I'll post any
replies to Tapir Talk as soon as the computer's back. Thanks.

Hi all,
Some of you may remember my requesting information a while ago. I am
currently near completion of a post graduate study on Brazilian/Lowland Tapirs
at Dublin Zoo. My porject has taken on an additional interesting angle and I
am trying to examine behavioural Preferences and priorities in captive Tapirs.
However, despite an intensive 2 year study on these amazing animals I still am
greatly lacking any quantitive information on the wild activity budgets and
other information including anonamalies in the wild behaviour of Brazilian
Tapirs. If anybody has any information I would be extremely grateful, if you
happen to know anyone studying these animals, know of any papers on wild
activity budgets or indeed are studying them yourself please could you email
me at anouskakinahan@hotmail.com
On a final note, I am finishing up in september so if anyone is studying any
species of tapir in the wild and is looking for an enthusiastic hardworking
dedicated assistant please contact me.
Thanks again all for your help,
Yours Anouska kinahan (anouskakinahan@hotmail.com
