Drinking tapirs
in Artis Zoo,
Amsterdam, Netherlands
(DETAIL)

| See whole painting |

This is a detail from a painting I did about 1979. This lowland tapir (Tapirus terrestris) is reaching into its moat for a drink. You can see the blue cast in the animal's eye, which is typical of some tapirs and can be caused either by excessive exposure to light or sometimes by injury.

All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
