Tapirs in Zoos and Parks
Since it would be impossible for us to keep up with which zoos keep how many tapirs, we've provided some links that may help.
Lowry Park Zoo, Tampa, Florida
A letter from Pam Brachmann, a Lowry Park Zoo docent, received July 15, 2002, told us that the zoo has a breedig pair of Malayan tapirs. If you're in the area, drop by and pay them a visit!
AZA (American Zoo and Aquarium Association)
The AZA's site has a volume of information on animals in zoos, endangered species, conservation groups, etc. It also explains a lot of the acronyms you may have seen around the Web in connection with animals. This is an extensive site, and one well worth exploring. If you ever wondered what was behind some of the current thinking in zoo practices, this is your site. There is also a long list of zoos, with contact information, and another long list of zoos with web sites.
Tapirs in Pictures
This page of the Tapir Gallery will take you to lots of pictures of tapirs in zoos.
Other tapirs on the Web
This is part of the Tapir Gallery. Look for zoo links.

A tapir is listed in the Ragunan Zoo, Jakarta, Indonesia
All tapirs are endangered species.
Saving tapirs helps save the rainforest.
